Interpreter Requirements

Here is what Language Line Services looks for when we recruit face to face and telephone interpreters:

  • Educated, native, or near native proficiency in English and a non-English language
  • Professional, pleasant phone presence
  • Good customer service skills
  • Good oral communication skills

In addition, here’s what we look for in our Work at Home interpreters

  • A reliably quiet and professional environment during work periods. All types of background noise and distractions must be kept to a minimum (i.e. pets, TV, music, people, etc.)
  • A dedicated phone line. The telephone must be a corded traditional telephone. No cordless, speakerphones, cellular/wireless or VoIP (e.g. Skype, Vonage). This line would be for incoming calls only and without extra services (i.e. call waiting, call forwarding).
  • A headset phone or corded headset with a mute button. The headset must be corded and plug into a corded telephone to allow you to work hands-free.
  • Note-taking paper and writing utensils.

If this sounds like you, and you want to be considered for future interpreting vacancies, apply today.
