Interpreting services for the Trust are provided by “Language Line”.  In July, they launched their telephone interpreting service with presentation to the staff in the Golden Jubilee Wing atrium and training sessions in outpatient areas.  Their service offers the use of the dual handset telephones, enabling both patients and healthcare professionals to hear the interpreter at the same time.  The service is accessible immediately with interpreters for over 200 languages on hand.  The instance accessibility of the service and the ease of the use of the handset should improve the ability of an interpreter.

One of the first areas to use the service has been the Women’s Outpatient Department Clinic Supervisor Tanath Young said: “All our midwives and doctors are using the telephone service as it’s really easy to access.  We now use telephone interpreting for all our follow-up patients.”

If you would like more information about the new service or to find out about training sessions on how to use and book the service, contact Leanne Peto in the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on extension 3601 or email  4848
