Language Line Services helps the long arm of the law


Language Line Services has signed a six year contract to provide face to face (F2F) interpreting services to Thames Valley Police. Language Line will provide 24/7 short notice access to a diverse range of languages from Romanian and Polish to Vietnamese and Pashtu.

The contract was let as a framework agreement which can be accessed by 12 other Police Services in the south and east including British Transport Police and City of London Police.

Thames Valley Police expect bookings to be around 3,500 per annum at the beginning of the contract, growing to around 10,000 per annum as the service is rolled out across further forces. Interpreters will be recruited in accordance with the Association of Chief Police Officers National Agreement to ensure quality and security. Interpreters will also be registered with the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI) in order to comply with Thames Valley Police policy on the use of Interpreters and Translators

This is the first time that face to face interpreting services have been outsourced by Thames Valley Police and Language Line Services has been able to help the force to fulfil its objectives by providing a quality service while reducing direct costs, travel expenses and indirect officer administration time.

Language Line Services is now the sole source supplier for face to face interpreting to Thames Valley police, securing the contract in the face of stiff opposition from 15 competitors.
